Big Ben

As one of the most famous clocks in the world, Big Ben is an iconic part of London’s skyline and is featured on many souvenirs and postcards.

The clock was originally named St. Stephen’s tower, but it was re-named Elizabeth tower in 2012 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. It was designed by Edmund Buckett Denison but had to be taken over by his son Edward Dent, as he passed away before its completion.

The clock tower itself stands at 97.5 meters tall, making it difficult to see amongst taller buildings that have since been built. But the best viewpoint and photo opportunity would be from Westminster Bridge. This area is very popular with tourists so make sure you keep a close eye on your belongings there. Big Ben is in a prime location to many other tourist attractions such as Westminster Abbey and only a short walk over Westminster Bridge to the Coca-Cola London Eye.
